boy. I should check this more often

I’ve been putting a few posts and video over at phillbecker.com.
Quick over view: she started crawling @ 6months, walking @ 9 1/2 months, running shortly after that. Spent the summer in NY at the cabin, birthday at Nana/Pop Pop’s place. Ear infection over and done while I was out of state in August, everything’s fine now. She is just now cutting molars: 4 at a time (yay).

Ruth is very physical and agile. She runs, climbs and beats Eddy up all the time. She’s a good eater and a snuggle bug. Lots of pictures and some video that just hasn’t made it online yet. I’ll get to it.

6 months now

Ruth had her checkup the other day and is doing fine. Still no sicknesses, ear infections etc. Her first tooth cut a couple days after the checkup, she started crawling a little (actual crawling, not just “commando”) and decided standing was better.

Stats: 26 3/4 ” long
14 lbs 14 oz
43.7 cm head circ.

Why the heck does the medical system use 2 different systems for measurement. Go all English or give it up and go metric like the rest of the world.  nevermind

She’s generally happy. Ruth definitely knows what she wants and how to get it.  If she’s interested in exploring, don’t try to play.  Standing and holding onto fingers or the walker is much more enjoyable than crawling. Now she can sit and play with thing. In fact, this morning was her first experience in a restaurant high chair and it went very well.

We’ve introduced spoon foods, and she still takes a bottle.  She’s just about given up nursing, but not completely.  Favorite food seems to be sweet peas.  They spray really well when she goes “PBBbbBBBBBBBBbbbBBB!!!”

There’s this funny thing about giving her a bottle… she needs her head covered with a blanket.  Otherwise she’ll grab and push the bottle away, grab your face or anything else she can reach.  The blanket gives her something to hold onto and rub on her eyes.  Of course, it also gives her a weapon to grab with both hands and sweep away the bottle from time to time.

Allison took her to a high school dance marathon last night. Where Eddy cowered from the noise and people and lights and mascots, she apparently grooved to the bass beat and had a grand time with all the people and stimulation.

Time to baby-proof the house, I guess

ho ho humbug

I think I’ve used that title before.

Ruth can barrel roll across the floor.  But only over her left arm. So she hits a wall/couch and gets stuck. She can also commando across the crib, but the carpet is too much friction. Dr says she’s 6-8 weeks advanced in her motor skills, so that’s good. She’s also slowed down her weight gain, but not height and head circumference.  She might end up tall and thin and athletic… poor girl.

I’ll put some pictures up in a bit because I’m working on a project right now. Shhh don’t tell anyone I’m making artsy holiday presents.  I still don’t like christmas, but the elevated spirits in the air are contagious.  Spirits in the glass will be elevated shortly.

We’re getting in the swing of things here at home.  Everybody up, out the door, drop Eddy at school, come home or run errands, get Eddy, come home, lunch & nap for Ruth, lunch and play for Eddy, Allison comes home, Phill leaves, play, dinner bath, etc… lather rinse repeat.

We went to the family service at the UU tonight. She stayed awake and Eddy fell asleep for the first time in public in his life. Ever. No “I’m a little baby and will sleep anytime” no “I’m just a little guy and get tuckered out” no.  We get “I’m 4 years old and darnit I’m tired. Scratch my back and give me Ruth’s snow suit for a pillow.”

Yeah.  so, remind me to update the pics.

night.

well…

Apparantly this hasn’t been updated in a while. So, Ruth is now 3 months old. She’s bigger than average, strong, smiles and laughs and sleeps well. We have more pictures, but they are still on the camera.  I will get them online when I find

  1. the power cord for my laptop that has the easy uploading enabled
  2. the cord to connect the camera to the computer
  3. enough time where I’m thinking about it to do it.

We have a room for her, but I need to swap out the carpet (1983 teal doesn’t appeal to me) and find to metal bars to put her crib together.

I said “swap out the carpet” like it was no big deal, didn’t I.  After “swapping out the carpet” in our room and Eddy’s room I can officially say “It sucks. Pay someone to do it for you.”  Or at least get someone to help you.  and give youself at least 6inches extra in every direction before you cut.  Oh, and CUT STRAIGHT LINES!!  The book suggests to use a chalk line.  I suggest that I should have.

but this is about Ruth.

She’s asleep on my side of the bed and the couch is in the garage covered in crap.

She did fine whith her mom’s first day back at work.  She cried for a while during the 10:00 feeding hour, but slept a lot so it all balanced out. Besides, Nana held her and fed her while I wrestled carpet.

so that’s it. ’till I remember to get those pictures up anyway.

Getting big

So things are going well. Eddy has gotten into the swing of begging for attention. Try to imagine an over-caffinated spidermonkey that knows where the guilt buttons are. Mostly he does that when I’m gone.

Ruth put on… 30 oz. I think, by her 3 week checkup. She eats well. She’ll nurse for an hour or so, then take a couple ounces of formula. She sleeps well during the day. Not so much at night. I think she sleeps to avoid Eddy and his bouncy trouncy flouncy pouncy fun fun fun fun fun.

edit: I just found this and thought I’d post it backdated. pb

doing fine

the hospital has wireless so I thought i’d try to update a little.  Both are doing fine still. Ruth’s a good eater and seems to be “kinda chill” in Allison’s words.  They’ll need to stay for 48 hours. More actually because there will be no one to discharge them at 9 at night.  I love the medical system…

Eddy is ready to see his sister and should come with Nana in an hour or so.  We’ll see how they do together.

Thanks to beth for watching eddy before linda got there. (sorry for the typing errors… ruth isasleep on my right arm.)

I;ll try to teach Allison how to add entries to this interwebby thingy.

Happy Birthday To Me!

Well, to Ruth anyway.  Ruth Laruel Becker was born at 20:26 on 14 Aug 2006.  8 lbs 5 1/2 ounces, 21 3/4 inches. Healthy, and happy to eat and sleep.  Good girl.

Labor was quick. Allison had some labor signs this morning, then we went to the hospital about 6pm. by 8:30, Ruth was with us.  Both are healthy and happy.

Look for pictures at gallery.phillbecker.com   I’ll try to get the link posted on the side.

I’ll update the page looks later… not that anyone but me cares about that.

Congrats to Allison, she did a super job!
